This is an authentic German signaling paddle (Winkerkelle or Schaffnerkelle in German), historically used for traffic control and railway operations. They were essential for directing vehicles or signaling train departures. During WW2, they were used by German traffic police and military field police (Feldgendarmerie). They were also used as a direction indicator (Winkerkelle) for signaling turns in horse-drawn carriage traffic.
Description:
A circular metal disk with a red center (for high visibility) on a white background, attached to a long wooden handle.
Condition:
Visible standard age wear/use; the specific construction of the handle (w/two rivets) lends it to be a vintage/industrial model signal paddle.
