The WW2 Victory Medal was instituted by an Act of Congress on July 6, 1945 after initially being created as the "Victory Ribbon; the medal was later approved by the Secretary of War on 5 February 1946. It's awarded to all members of the Armed Forces who served at least one day of honorable, active federal service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946.

It was retroactively awarded to September 8, 1939.

A bronze star device was the only authorized device for this medal; affixed to denote the award was for service in combat.

DESCRIPTION:
Obverse:
Liberation figure standing full length with head turned to dexter looking to the dawn of a new day, right foot resting on a war god's helmet with the hilt of a broken sword in the right hand and the broken blade in the left hand; the inscription WORLD WAR II right below center.

Reverse:
United States of America - 1941-1945 encircling "Freedom from Fear and Want, Freedom of Speech and Religion.
