WW2 (USA) Shell Casing - 1942

$18.00

This authentic shell casing, stamped "Den 42", was produced at the Denver Ordnance Plant in 1942. It was discovered in a forest in the small village of Heltersberg in the Rheinland-Pfalz Region of Germany. Its condition suggests, it's been buried for quite many years.

It’s possible it was fired during WW2, either during a battle or possibly during training exercises. It may alternatively have been fired during training exercises during the Cold War.

Includes:
- Spent shell casing with "Den 42" stamp.
- Case for shell display
- Historical information card

History:
In December 1940, the federal government purchased over 2,000 acres of land from a Lakewood, Colorado rancher for the purpose of erecting an ordnance plant — named the Denver Ordnance Plant. The War Department purchased a contract from the Remington Arms Company in January 1941 to produce small arms ammunition. Construction began in March while ammunition production began in September. At its height, workers produced over six million cartridges a day at this plant.
