Generational (USA) Distinguished Flying Cross (Miniature) Medal - Original Issue

Established on 2 July 1926 by Congress and signed into law on 28 January 1927 by President Calvin Coolidge. The award has its origins from World War I when military aviation was first used in Combat.

Awarded to any Armed Forces service member who distinguishes themselves for heroism or outstanding achievement while participating in aerial flight.
Heroism - act must involve action in the face of danger and well above the actions of others under similar circumstances.
Extraordinary Achievement - act must be so exceptional that it clearly sets apart the individual from his or her colleagues.

Note: The first recipient of the award was Charles A. Lindbergh (11 June 1927) in recognition of his solo flight across the Atlantic in the 'Spirit of St. Louis' in May 1927. Later, on 18 October 1928, Wilbur and Orville Wright received the award for an earlier event (the 1st manned powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina).

DESCRIPTION:
Obverse - Four-bladed propeller in the reentrant angles of the cross, with rays between the arms of the cross.
Reverse - Blank, leaving space for the recipient's rank and name.
