This is a post-period reproduction enamel propaganda sign of Nazi Germany's Sturmabteilung or SA (Storm Troopers).
The "design" is of original origin but is not an original period piece; produced as a modern replica of an original. It was sourced directly from the region of Hessen, Germany & more than likely made its way west via an Eastern European country (Poland, Hungary, etc.).
The sign is convex with a light covering of enamel. It’s a solid, light weight piece presenting very little flaws; the "perceived" flaws are by design to enhance its "aged" appearance. Please review photos carefully.
Measurements (approximate):
Dia: 6"
Weight: 6 oz
DESCRIPTION:
The sign features the SA logo and the inscription "Siegen Arbeiten Weitermarschieren" (Win, Work, and March On) w/the date 1939 and four swastikas scattered around the perimeter.
HISTORY:
The SA was the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party, playing a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s & into the 1930s. These signs were used as propaganda and were often found as street signs or designation signs for offices or buildings associated with the SA. Signs like these are considered historical collectibles and memorabilia from WW2.
