This is an authentic 1965 Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Crown (Coin), presented in a red memorial card holder featuring an illustration of York Minster. This was a first time a non-monarch was portrayed on a British coin.

This is a British Pre-decimal currency with a face value of 5 Shillings (One Crown) and is made of Copper-Nickel. It was issued by the Royal Mint to mark the death of Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) & circulated during the Elizabeth II era (1965 to ca. 1971).

Description:
Obverse - Features a youthful portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (by Arnold Machin portrait).

Reverse - Depicts a sombre portrait of Churchill.

Historical Significance:
This crown commemorates The Right Honorable Sir Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain during and through WW2, from 1940 to 1945 and again from October 1951 to April 1955. He was also the 1st Lord Admiralty from 1939 to 1940.

Winston Churchill was born on 30 November 1874 and died in 24 January 1965.
