This is an authentic WW2 British Armed Forces 10 New Pence, "special voucher". They were a form of currency created as a result of the evacuation at Dunkirk and further used by British military personnel stationed overseas thereafter, as a substitute for local currency or the Sterling pound. They were issued by the British Armed Forces - Command of the Defense Council.
This 10 new pence note is the 6th series beginning issue in 1972. These are new (uncirculated) old stock.
Description:
Denomination in each corner as well as in numbers & text centered on the note to the obverse & reverse.
History:
These notes follow the designation as ‘Occupation Money’ issued to British soldiers for the purpose of spending money in the forces NAAFI and approved civilian businesses, which supplied food, drink, and/or entertainment in territories forces were stationed.
The concept materialized as a result of the millions of sterling pounds recovered/stolen by Nazi Germany, from captured soldiers and trucks containing pay corps funds, following the Dunkirk evacuation.
It was an ingenious method of both negating the risk of an enemy gaining United Kingdom currency and controlling the places UK forces could spend their pay. Soon after, most countries adopted a similar concept.
Note: Multiple in stock...Shipped item may not be exactly as appears in the photos - may contain slight variation in color/standard age wear.
