This is an authentic Confederate States of America (CSA) '25-Cent' fractional currency banknote clearly marked by the '25' in the upper right corner and the text "Twenty-Five Cents" across the center. It was issued on 1 January 1863 by the state of Alabama during the American Civil War. The currency is obsolete and thus, no longer legal tender.
The currency is a 2nd series banknote and is signed by the governor of Alabama, John Gill shorter who served in this role from 2 December 1861 until 1 December 1863.
Highlighting its function as legal tender within Alabama, the banknote note states, "Receivable in Payment of all Public Dues".
