Yom Kippur War 1973 (MFO) Multinational Force and Observers Medal - Original Issue

Known as the Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) Medal, it was instituted on March 24th, 1982 for service in the Sinai Peninsula. It recognized international military members of the Multinational Force & Observers, who participated in support of the ceasefire zone between Egypt and Israel after the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) was established in 1979 and the award was authorized by the Director General.

Australia, Canada, Colombia, Fiji, France, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay personnel who Initially, 90 days of service qualified for the award, but the qualifying period was later raised to 170 days.

ELIGIBILITY:
Those who took part in peacekeeping operations between Egypt and Iraq from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Fiji, France, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay.

Qualification was initially for 90 days of service but the qualifying period was later raised to 170 days.

The U.S. military authorized this award to be issued to service members (all services) who completed at least 170 cumulative days of services in the MFO from August 1981 (90 days prior to March 15, 1985). It's classified as a non-U.S. service award

Subsequent presentations of the award are denoted by a silver numeral, beginning w/number "2" for each additional 6 months of service.
