Generational (USA) Texas Faithful Service Medal - Original Issue

$26.00

Established 20 March 1930, the Texas Faithful Service Medal is a campaign/service award of the Texas Military Department that may be issued to a service member of the Texas Military Forces.

It is awarded to those of the state military forces who have completed five years of honorable service during which the person has shown fidelity to duty, efficient service, and great loyalty to the state.

Issuance requires authorization by the Texas State Guard Commanding General or a Texas National Guard Lieutenant Colonel, and presentation to the awardee by the next higher level of command. Subsequent awards are denoted by a cactus device.

***This medal is quite old and contains a significant amount of Patina...best guess is it dates 1940s. The source for which it was obtained indicated it "belonged to his grandfather who served during WW2".

Description:

Obverse:
Contains an emblem with crossed olive and live oak branches and the words "Faithful Service" and "Texas National Guard".

History:
The Texas National Guard is composed of the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. The Army component dates back to a militia established by Sam Houston in 1835. The Air component traces back to the 111th Aero Squadron formed in 1917 in support of World War I efforts.
