This is an authentic antique British Jamieson & Co. Neat's Foot Oil metal can w/paper label and cork stopper. Manufactured at New Southgate, London, it was a "Specially Prepared" oil for horse harnesses. Jamieson & Co. operated in New Southgate, London (N.11), an area that developed significantly in the late 19th century near the historic Colney Hatch.

Antique late 1800s to early 1900s, during the period when horse-drawn transport was still a primary mode of industry before the widespread adoption of motor vehicles.

Neats foot oil is a yellow, fatty oil traditionally rendered from the shin bones and feet of cattle (the term "neat" is an Old English word for cattle). It was a staple in the 19th and early 20th centuries for...
1. Softening and conditioning leather that had become stiff or dry.
2. Waterproofing horse tack, including saddles and harnesses, to protect them from the elements.

Condition:
The can is in very good condition considering its age. It has some small rusting at the bottom but nothing significant. The paper label is nearly fully intact and affixed to the can appropriately. Review photos carefully; standard age wear/use should be expected.
