Vintage (ca. 1950s) German (Enamel) Saarkohle (Saar Coal) Advertising Sign

$340.00

This is an authentic German enamel advertising sign for Saarkohle (Saar Coal). This sign specifically advertises coal from the Saar region of Germany. This type of enamel advertising sign was a popular medium for durable outdoor advertising before World War II and through the 1970s & this one is likely from the mid-20th century..circa 1950s/60s.

The bold red background with high-contrast white and black lettering is characteristic of industrial advertising of that era, emphasizing reliability and efficiency.

The Saar region has a long history of coal mining and heavy industrialization that gave it significant strategic importance in the 19th and 20th centuries. Such signs were commonly used by coal merchants to promote the quality of regional coal over cheaper imports.

Text & Translation:
- Saarkohle (Saar Coal)
- heizkräftig daher sparsam (high heating power, therefore economical).
