(British) Theakston Old Peculiar Rubber Bar Runner/Mat

$18.00

Official rubber bar runner mat featuring the branding for Theakston Old Peculier, one of Britain’s most iconic and celebrated traditional strong old ales. The distinctive artwork and wording on the mat carry a deep historical meaning tied to the heritage of the Theakston Brewery: The "Peculier" of Masham, the name of the beer pays homage to Masham, the North Yorkshire market town where the brewery is based. In medieval England, the local parish was granted independent jurisdiction separate from the standard church diocese. This independent ecclesiastical court was legally known as a "Peculier". The circular golden emblem on the mat depicts a bearded, kneeling man. This is an exact reproduction of the historical 1741 Seal of the Official of the Peculier of Masham. The original wax seal was used by the court’s chairman (the "Official") to formalize local legal documents, handle probates, and manage local offenses. It's brewed since the 19th century, Old Peculier is globally famous for its dark ruby-red color and rich, complex flavor profile containing smooth notes of dark fruit, cherry, toffee, and molasses. It measures approximately 23 1/2"L/W x 8"H.
