Obverse: inscription that translates to “French Republic”
Reverse: inscription that translates to “Medal of Military Valor”
Box Annotation: “Mint of Paris”, & its address.

Devices:
Awarded w/varying devices specific to individual campaigns/citations as stipulated below:
- Bronze star: f/citation at the unit, brigade, or regimental level
- Silver star: f/citation at the divisional level
- Gold star: f/citation at the Army Corps level
- Bronze palm: f/citation at the Army level
- Silver palm: f/five bronze palms.

History:
Created 11 April 1956, originally in the form of a Medal, “the Cross” was instituted 12 October 1956.

Since its creation of intended purpose, it has been used to recognize operations in Cape Verde, Congo, Liberia, Haiti, Côte d’Ivoire, Lebanon, Antilles, Chad, Libya, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mauritius, Mali, Niger, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
