Cold War (East Germany) Collective of Socialist Labor Badge - Authentic Issue
This is an original communist East Germany Cold War badge awarded to workers as a collective team who had displayed performance excellence, good work ethic, & the application of socialist doctrines. It began issuance ca. 1960s.
East Germany, referred to as the German Democratic Republic (GDR), officially became a country in 1949 following an impasse between the western allies (USA, Britain, & France) and communist Russia, splitting Germany into two nations. They remained an independent nation for 41 years until 1990, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
DESCRIPTION:
Two-part square shaped pendent rounded at corners w/clasp all of which is bronze colored.
Measurements (approximate): 1 1/4"W x 1 7/8"H.
Obverse:
Red enameled center w/hammer and compass squeezed between an ear of corn on either side. Surrounding the embossment is the inscription, "Kollectiv Der Sozialistchen Arbeit" (Collective of Socialist Work). The clasp is enameled in the GDR state colors & emblazoned with the GDR coat of arms.
Reverse:
Centered is the inscription, "Sozialistchen Arbeiten Lernen und Leben" (Work, Live, & Learn Socialism) and the clasp with the standard Pin-back.
