This is an authentic West Germany Armed Forces Badge of Marksmanship (Gold-Class 1), known in German as the Schützenschnur. It's awarded to military personnel (primarily enlisted) for reaching specific proficiency levels in weapons qualification.
The badge is awarded in three classes: Bronze, Silver, and Gold and is one of the few foreign awards pre-approved for wear on U.S. military uniforms by enlisted personnel.
Description:
Gold (Class 1) w/gold-colored metal plaque featuring the German federal eagle (Bundesadler) surrounded by a wreath attached to a silver-colored braided cord.
Wear:
It is worn on the right side of the uniform coat. The upper loop is attached under the center of the right shoulder strap (epaulette) while the bottom portion (with the plaque) is typically attached to a concealed button located under the lapel of the uniform jacket.
