Cold War (East Germany) DDR NVA Belt Buckle (Grey) - Authentic
This is an original Cold War belt buckle of communist East Germany, the Deutschland Democratic Republic (DDR) Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) or in English, National People’s Army. The buckle was for uniform belts on the heavy duty canvas web belts, of enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the NVA.
East Germany, referred to as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) or DDR in German as above, officially became a country in 1949 following an impasse between the western allies (USA, Britain, & France) and communist Russia, splitting Germany into two nations. They remained an independent nation for 41 years until 1990, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
