Cold War (East Germany) Army Officer's Dagger w/Scabbard
This is an original Cold War army officer's honor dagger of communist East Germany, the Deutschland Democratic Republic (DDR) Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) or in English, National People’s Army. It was awarded to graduates of the East German Officers School for obtaining the first officer rank, Lieutenant.
It has two (twin) blood grooves on the blade with an orange ribbed Lucite handle. The hand-guard is ornately decorated with acorn finials. The dagger is fitted with a "push-button" release from the scabbard. The scabbard is embossed with the hammer & compass national emblem...their socialist heraldry.
The dagger has never been sharpened & is in overall excellent condition.

History:
East Germany, referred to as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) or DDR in German as above, officially became a country in 1949 following an impasse between the western allies (USA, Britain, & France) and communist Russia, splitting Germany into two nations. They remained an independent nation for 41 years until 1990, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
