Cold War (Bulgaria) - 30 Years of Victory over Nazi Germany Commemorative Medal (Authentic Issue)
Established on 6 March 1975, it was awarded to veterans of the Bulgarian People's Army, participants in the Bulgarian resistance movement, & foreign citizens who took part in the armed struggle against German forces (& their accomplices) during the period of 1944-1945. Additionally, relatives of those killed in this struggle were eligible to receive the medal.
When worn, it was affixed to the left side of the uniform (or civilian dress), whichever is applicable to the recipients status.
Produced & minted from 1975-1991 at the State Sofia Mint.
The medal is no longer awarded (discontinued) as a result of the fall of the Berlin Wall & Collapse of Soviet Union and thus the NRB, Narodna republic Būlgariay (People's Republic of Bulgaria) on November 15, 1990.
Description:
Round w/eyelet for ribbon attached to aluminum backing w/pin.
Obverse: Soldiers of the Red Army (USSR) & the Bulgarian People's Army fighting side by side (design taken from a WW2 photo by war correspondent Mikhail Tashev).
Written around the circumference (in Bulgarian) are the dates 1945-1975 (end of war + 30 years) & between it the date 9 May (day/month of WW2 conclusion). The outer border also includes two laurel branches (of the victorious heroes) & two five-pointed stars.
Reverse: Years since WW2 victory and the inscription (Bulgarian), "30 Years of Victory over Fascist Germany"
