British Framed Telephone Sign
A piece of British History...
Full size reproduction of an original Telephone sign from a British Phone Booth - each phone booth would have 4 signs, at each side of the Booths’s top dome.
This sign is replicated in 6.5mm laminated safety glass (originals were made of 100% glass) - these reproductions are transformed to appear authentic, framed beautifully to depict a true representation of the original as it would appear on the phone booth.
Measurements (approximate):
Length: 26 1/4"
Height: 5 1/2"
Depth: 3/4"
100% made in England (Lincolnshire)
Note: The King George V letter box nor the actual phone booth are for sale in this ad; shown only for visual representation. The Letter box is available in a separate ad.
A very cost effective solution for an office, hospitality environment, or home to display an iconic image(s) of British history.
HISTORY:
The phone boxes began use in 1927 and materials were much different then. The telephone sign itself was made of pure glass. As society evolved, improvements were made and the glass (including these phone boxes) made glass adjustments. Think car windshields. Historically, they were pure glass and if broken, shattered into splintered pieces making them more dangerous. Same for these signs. They are now (this one) made of safety glass so that if broken, they break into little “rock” pieces.
The British do not produce these phone boxes any longer going out of production in the mid 1980s. But, they are still around, recognizable, and a British cultural icon.
Today, people use them for props and things such as weddings, parties, or you might see them in bars or pubs as show pieces. As such, they get shipped around the world. You can actually see one on an episode of Britains Got Talent.
