WW2 (Ukraine) Defender of the Fatherland Commemorative Medal w/Certificiate of Attribution

Established 8 October 1999 by decree of the President of Ukraine. Awarded to war veterans who participated in the liberation of Ukraine from Nazi occupation.

Recipients included:
- WW2 veterans (as well as citizens of other countries) whom participated in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and liberated Ukraine from Nazi occupation.
- Other citizens of Ukraine for personal courage and bravery while protecting the public interest, and strengthening the defense and security of Ukraine.

Presented by the President, heads of central and local executive power bodies, leaders of military formations, and foreign representatives.

Also awarded posthumously.

Description:
Round, 32mm, & Brass - hangs from a loop fastener w/yellow, blue, orange, & black ribbon. The Ribbon is attached to a Soviet-shaped pentagonal aluminum plate. Note: This style was repealed in 2015 and replaced with a rectangular plate (the replacement bears the same name).

Obverse: Shield, sword, & half garland of laurel & oak leaves. The shield reflects the outline of Ukraine & is inscribed, "Ukraine". Across the top, the inscription, "Defender of the Fatherland".

Reverse: Laurel Wreath

Medal is accompanied by a certificate of attribution, it reads:
