2. Participants of the Warsaw underground and uprising in 1944.
3. Liberators of Warsaw from Nazi Germany in January 1945
** Also awarded to foreign citizens if they participated in these events.
Note: One of the first people to be awarded the medal was the first President of Poland, B. Bierut and some high ranking Polish Military.
Original Issue - Full Size Medal - Bronze
Description:
Obverse:
Image of a siren with a shield in the left hand and a sword in the right. They represent the coat of arms of the city of Warsaw. The top contains the inscription "1939" and "1945" where the sword almost acts as a dash between the two dates. At the bottom, "ZA WARSZAWE" (For Warsaw).
Reverse:
"RP-OBRONCOM-BOJOWNIKOM-OSWOBODZICIELOM" (To the defenders, warriors, liberators) w/oak leaves and three acorns at the bottom.
Ribbon:
Red w/two longitudinal bands along the sides representing the colors of Warsaw.

Polish People's Republic (1939-1989); Government of the Republic of Poland in exile
Third Republic (1989-).
