WW2 (Nazi Germany) Hitler Youth Dagger w/Scabbard

This Hitler Youth (HJ) Dagger & scabbard has significant wear & age. The scabbard retains about 1/4 of its original paint w/the remaining worn and mostly evenly distributed throughout the scabbard. The scabbard is magnetic sheet metal & contains the original leather belt & retainer loop w/working snap.

The blade does appear to have been sharpened & possibly cleaned with an abrasive effort as it contains scratches on the surfaces, perhaps by the original HJ owner. The blade is 4 1/2" long and the Bakelite handle grip (w/cross guard) has a repeating grooved diamond pattern.

The dagger & scabbard is in overall fair condition and is priced accordingly.

History:
Believing German youth to be the future of the Third Reich, the official Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend - HJ) organization was formed in 1935 (a similar organization to the Boy Scouts, save for the Nazi indoctrination). At ten years old, boys (Hitler Jugend) & girls (Bund Deutscher Mádel) were enlisted in the organization.

Daggers were given (boys only) after having passed state examinations. The daggers had/have nickel-plated hilts with black checkered grip plates, one side fitted with an enameled HJ swastika insignia. Daggers were etched with the HJ motto "Blut und Ehre" (Blood and Honor) through 1937. Daggers after this date were produced w/plain blades & often (but not always) bearing an RZM marking.
