WW2 (Nazi Germany) - West Wall Medal
A Nazi Germany civil medal instituted on 2 August 1939, to recognize those who designed and built the defensive fortifications on Germany's western borders, known as the West Wall (and the "Siegfried Line" to Americans) which ran along the French Border North to the Netherlands and as far South as Switzerland.
It was additionally awarded retroactively to those troops who served at the fortifications between 15 June 1938 and 31 March 1939.
The Medal was awarded up until 31 January 1941 and then re-instituted in 1944 following the Allied Invasion and awarded to those who participated in strengthening the fortifications of the western borders.
Medal Design:
Struck in bronze and of oval shape.
Obverse: Bunker, a crossed sword and shovel, and the German Eagle.
Reverse: Inscribed w/“Für Arbeit zum Schutze Deutschlands” (For Work on the Defenses of Germany).
