Inter-War (Nazi Germany) 1938 Luftschutz Medal (Air Raid Protection) 2nd Class - Original Issue
Founded by Adolf Hitler on 30 January 1936 recognizing those who participated in the protection and defense of the German population during air raids. It was instituted on 30 September 1938.
It was conferred upon members of the National Air Raid Protection League (Reichsluftschutzbund), the Security and Assistance Service (Sicherheits und Hilfsdienst), the Factory Protection Police (Werkschutz), and the Order Police (Ordnungspolizei), to both men and women.
The Badge was established in two classes. The 2nd class (this one) was awarded for meritorious and honorable service while the 1st class Cross was conferred for especially exceptional service.
Description:
Obverse:
Circular oak leaf wreath joined at the bottom by ribbon.
Raised central mobile swastika circled by the inscription, “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ” (For Merit in Air Protection).
Reverse:
Raised central date of “1938”
