This is a vintage Indian Dress Talwar (a form of curved sword/saber) of the Indian subcontinent. They are meant to be cutting swords & as such, are designed for "drawing" cuts. However, the delicate scabbard fittings, possibly suggests this one was for ceremonial purposes in lieu of combat purposes.

Description:
Made of metal w/an etched floral design on the blade and etched floral horse head handle. The hilt features a guard, a guard block, and a disc-shaped pommel. The scabbard is wood wrapped in green velvet w/brass fittings and embroidery.

Possibly early 20th century (exact age uncertain).

Markings:
Made in India.

Measurements (approximate):
Blade: 28 1/2"
Overall: 33"

History:
The long, curved shape was likely influenced by Persian and Central Asian swords. The talwar was adopted by India’s nobles and became part of the royal regalia of most Indian rulers.

Note: Multiple in stock...Shipped item may not be exactly as appears in the photos - may contain slight variation in color/standard age wear.
