This is an authentic post-WW1 booklet of the Weimar Constitution (Die Verfassung des Deutschen Reichs), which was the governing document of Germany from 1919 to 1933. It was adopted on August 11, 1919 & established Germany as a federal semi-presidential republic. The front cover translates to, "The Constitution of the German Reich.".
The first democratic constitution in German history and included progressive features such as:
1) Universal Suffrage: Granting voting rights to all citizens, including women.
2). Civil Rights: Protecting freedom of speech, religion, and assembly.
3). Social Rights: Introducing concepts like the "right to a decent home" and worker protections.
While technically remaining in effect during the Nazi era, its democratic functions were largely nullified by the Enabling Act of 1933.
These documents were published by the Reichsdruckerei (Imperial Printing Office) & were often printed specifically for gifts to students upon their graduation from school (den Schülern und Schülerinnen zur Schulentlassung).
