HISTORY: Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father King George VI. Her coronation, the ceremony marking the formal inauguration of ascension, was on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey, unique in its own right as the first televised coronation.
Her Silver Jubilee, the 25th anniversary of ascending the throne, was 1977. She is one of only four Queens to reach silver jubilee. Her Great-Great-Grandmother, Queen Victoria celebrated hers in 1862 followed by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands in 1923, and Queen Juliana, Queen Wilhelmina’s successor in 1962.
Her Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) was 2012; she became the longest reigning monarch in September 2015 when she surpassed her Great-Great-Grandmother whom reigned for 63 years. Her Platinum Jubilee (70th anniversary) was in June of 2022 at the age of 96. She passed away in September 2022.
