This RAD cap badge was issued to those performing leadership roles of teams & their subordinate-leaders of the RAD.

DESCRIPTION:
Constructed of die struck cupal base, silver washed w/black and red enamel paint.

Obverse: RAD emblem consisting of a black mobile swastika emblazoned on a spade shovel head (outlined in red). The shovel handle is connected by two outward pointing wheat sheaths.
Reverse: Maker marked “A.d.B. L., 36, Ges. RADJ Gesch.” Both aluminum split pins remain intact.

HISTORY:
The RAD was "officially" established on 26 June 1935 as the sole (and compulsory) labor service of Germany. Its purpose was to aid the crippling economy, slow unemployment, as well as, indoctrinate its members with NSDAP ideology. It also had a role in militarizing the German population.

Of the 40 Labor Districts, 17 wore their own unique cap badges, made uniquely and of metal, often with colorful enamel. They were introduced at varying time periods between 1934 & 1942.
