Inter-War (Nazi Germany) Youth Horseman's Badge - Original Issue
This is an original issue Deutsches Jugend-Reiterabzeichen (German Youth Horseman’s Badge) awarded to young German boys, under the age of 17 who displayed excellence & proficiency in Horsemanship & competition.
DESCRIPTION:
Constructed of a zinc based material.
Obverse: a mounted rider on a prancing horse wrapped in a wreath of oak leaves. At the bottom embossed an "R" for "Reiterabzeichen" (Horseman's Badge).
Reverse: Full horizontal pin-back on a round base plate.

HISTORY:
Originally established in 1930 as a civilian decoration under the Weimar Republic to increase general interest in horse riding, the new Nazi government (re-recognized) it as a national award in 1933. From its inception to the collapse of the Nazi regime, only about 11,000 badges were awarded.
